Google sohour?...really?

Disclaimer:
I was gonna write a really REALLY angry rant, not because of it, but because of me; it was a harsh anti-climax, i went in thinking "A7a, google! this'll kick ass!!!" and it was a normal, nice-locationed, good-buffeted event...the usual with a slightly nicer furniture
BUT opted to make it sound nice since an acquaintance was worn out in setting it up so here it goes

The not-so GOOGLE sohour:

  • Assumptions
    • that this was an event for people to meet new people, have fun & be involved
    • it would represent THE google essence; creativity, out of the box, dazzling, kedahowan ya7ny
  • What i want to say is...
    • A GOOGLE event was not expected to be slightly nicer to a normal company event
    • the thrown-around games were busted; PS joysticks & air hockey table (WHY OH WHY WAS IT BUSTED !!!? x'(
    • There should be something where people are engaged in to meet & get to know each other; i shouldn't only talk to the people i know, i should be busy enough meeting people i don't know that i don't have time to talk to the ones i do know!
I should be able to have fun even if i'm alone
    • The band was way in the back & mic; would've been nicer if it was centered & tables were placed around working & engaging activities where people talked & introduced themselves as a side effect of being engaged in the game/activity
    • The band & mics would've been nicer if they were in the center especially when it came to celebrating Wael's birthday; that way everyone would celebrate it, not just the googlers while everyone watches
    • A pool table, darts, TWISTER!, a WORKING air hockey table (I'm sorry, it was too much of a disappointment) some baladi "moled" games would've been a NICE touch (i actually expected to find a "madfa3" :D)

Anyway...
yea, it's only the disappointed over-expectations talking; the food was great & the view was awesome
It's just when one hears GOOGLE, one thinks big...you know?

And for what it's worth, thanks; provoked some ideas in my head for what i'd do for an event i'm in charge of :D
